Loch View is a stunning, award winning, 3 bedroom, architect designed house.  Sleeping 6 in 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom with a modern open plan living area, the house is set in a tranquil and remote location overlooking Loch na Muilne on Bernera.

The house won the best architect designed house in the Outer Hebrides Design Awards 2016, competing against houses built in 2014 and 15. It has also received press coverage, for example in the Scottish Sunday Post magazine, Coast Magazine and Homes and Interiors Scotland.

The site is framed by the loch in front of the house and the ridge behind, providing a picturesque setting and shelter from the weather. As you walk up the site, the loch opens up, revealing its "H" shape and small island in the middle. We're told that in dry weather it's possible to walk to the island over stepping stones from the southerly bank.

The House

The house is less than a mile from Bosta beach with its beautiful sandy beach and Iron Age house; we often walk there and back whilst the dinner cooks. At Breaclete, the main village on Bernera, there is a community centre with a cafe. In Kirkibost, there is an honesty shop with good range of local produce and everyday basics.

Bernera is on the west side of Lewis, surrounded by Loch Roag. It's joined to Lewis by a road bridge that was built in 1953 and has has recently been replaced. There is good access to the tourist attractions on the west coast of the island and around Uig. Stornoway and Tarbert are both a 40 minute drive. Fuel is available at the self-service filling station on Bernera.

What People Say

"Living the dream at Loch View"

Loch View is the kind of house you drive by and say ooh, I wish I lived there. Well we lived the dream, even if it was just for a week!

Fantastic house and by far the best equipped we’ve ever rented. Beautiful location over looking the loch with Bosta beach only a 10/15 minute walk away. The welcome pack was a real treat with home made cake, Cava and lots of other goodies. Sally the owner was very helpful and very quick to respond to my questions. Golden Eagles flying over the house every day were the icing on the cake.

“Breathtakingly Wonderful”

This is a unique escape from the rest of the world in a luxurious, immaculately designed house with every creature comfort you might want slap-bang in the middle of one of the most remote and wild places in Britain. We spent 9 incredible days at Loch View and totally switched off from work, problems and other pedestrian concerns. Our city kids were happy as clams in the house and the wilds and my son had his first fishing lesson opposite the house. Before coming we fretted constantly about the weather but in the end even when the sun wasn't shining it was a pleasure to be inside. If you want a real escape from suburban concrete, pebble-dash Britain come here!
