We've designed the house with the needs of the outdoor life in mind. There is a large entrance boot room and a secure external store room with plenty of space for wetsuits, drysuits, wellies, walking boots, bicycles or fishing equipment.
The heart of the house is a large open plan kitchen, living room and dining room. The living room area is full height open to the roof and has a wood-burning stove with slate hearth. The whole area overlooks the loch with large floor to ceiling windows in the living room and dining room that open onto the patio.
The kitchen has a full height fridge and a separate full height freezer so you can do a big shop on arrival in Stornoway. There is an oven, induction hob, microwave and dishwasher. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking and baking. The separate utility room keeps the noise of the washing machine and dryer out of the living areas.
Local TV and mobile phone reception is poor so we have installed satellite TV and full fibre-to-the-premises ultra-fast broadband. Bernera is remote community selected for broadband funding by the Scottish Government. There is a Blu-ray/DVD player and a Bluetooth music player.
Downstairs is a double bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs there are two further bedrooms - one double, one twin and a shower room. The downstairs and upstairs bedrooms are separated which works well if you have two parties eg grandparents or two families.
The house is extremely energy efficient. An air source heat pump provides renewable energy for heating and hot water. The main living area and bathrooms have underfloor heating, bedrooms have radiators.
Please note that the house is strictly non-smoking and that we are unable to accept pets. Children are welcome although we don't provide baby equipment eg cot or highchair.
